In June 1972, an image of a naked nine-year-old girl running down a street in Vietnam sent shockwaves around the world. Phan Thi Kim Phuc, as photographed by Nick Ut, was fleeing the horrors of a napalm attack that destroyed her village and seared the skin from her body. Within days, the picture was in newspapers worldwide and came to symbolize the inhumanity of war.
